What it means to be a volunteer in India, what is expected from you and how you can prepare for a meaningful experience.
A volunteer is someone who is willing to use their time and energy to help others without expecting material reward in return. It can be as simple as helping someone cross the road or, in our case, spending a few weeks supporting communities in Rajasthan.
When you join Volunteering India, you are choosing to do this on a wider scale and with a more focused purpose, together with a team and local partners.
Whatever your main reason is, you will usually find that you give support and also receive a lot back in terms of memories, learning and friendships.
You do not need a long list of degrees or professional titles to join most of our programs. What matters most is enthusiasm, openness to learn, respect for another culture and basic physical and emotional readiness to live in a new environment.
We look at your CV or application mainly to understand your interests, skills and past experiences so we can match you with a program that fits you well.
As a volunteer you are not left on your own; local staff and coordinators guide you, arrange accommodation and help you navigate daily questions. You are also in touch with our team before and during your stay for practical information and backup support.
Ask yourself if you can commit time, adapt to a different lifestyle and give your full effort to the people you will meet. If the answer is yes, then you already have the most important qualities to become a volunteer with us.
Your donation helps us educate children, support health camps and protect the environment in and around Jaipur.
